Scientists for Global Responsibility launch new ethical careers briefing.

Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) has just brought out a new briefing entitled 'Your career and sustainable development'. It describes an innovative approach that will help scientists and engineers incorporate environmental and social considerations into their work. The briefing can be downloaded from SGR's web-site at: http://www.sgr.org.uk/ethics.html
This is the fourth 8-page briefing in the highly popular series 'Thinking About an Ethical Career in Science and Technology'.

Other briefings available are:

  • Career choice and climate change
  • Cleaner technologies: a positive choice
  • Career choice, ethics and animal experimentation The series also includes a 32-page introductory booklet.

All these publications can be downloaded from the SGR website (given above). Further briefings will be published over the coming months, covering topics that include the military and space technology; nuclear issues; ethics and genetics; and military involvement in science and technology.
Demand for these publications has proved to be very high with a total of over 5000 copies being distributed to date. To quote one reader, the introductory booklet on ethical careers '...provides exactly the type of information and advice that's missing from undergraduate science courses. It has a good, clear structure and I feel it is pitched at just the right level. Fantastic!' (Jenny Thomas, biology undergraduate, Imperial College)

Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) is an independent UK-based organisation of scientists and engineers promoting ethical science and technology.
