Fury at pro-GM school magazines MORE than 140,000 glossy brochures sponsored by the US corporate giants of genetic modification such as Monsanto are being pushed into Scotland's schools by Scottish Enterprise, with the enthusiastic backing of the schools watchdog HM Inspectorate of Education. Sunday Herald 15 April 2001 Full Story New website targets Bush bankrollers In March, President George Bush abandoned the USA's commitment to the Kyoto climate agreement, attracting worldwide condemnation. Now a new website, set up by UK-based campaign organisation ECRA, seeks to show that by targeting the companies that bankrolled Bush to victory in November, individuals can force his hand at climate talks in Bonn this July. www.boycottbush.net lists the top twenty corporate donors to the Republican Party with consumer brands, while at the same time noting more ethical alternatives. Climate Negotiators Softening on Bush UN climate negotiations chair Jan Pronk has offered a set of compromise proposals to try to bring the US back into the Kyoto process. These tally very neatly with the get-out clauses the US was calling for at COP-6 in the Hague last year no limits on flexible mechanisms, permitting use of carbon sinks etc. Full story |
