Magazine Issue 5&6 - Winter 1997
Dear Sir
In your introduction to Issue 4, entitled ‘The Writing on the Wall’, you volunteer lack of resources for the long period between publications. Have you considered approaching the Lottery Commission for an award? Singing lessons and re-location may be necessary so the CW falls within the ‘opera-based in London’ category but, surely, its a small price to pay to ensure regular publication?

Furthermore, I notice that tucked in the aims of CW (page 3) the following statement ‘... many corporations are more powerful than governments, and governments dare not challenge them ...’. I know it sounds really, really thick but up until now I thought that corporate power was the Government! Thank heavens you put me right. (I see Lord Simon in a new light now).
Yours enlightenedly

Catherine Nicholls, Tumbridge Wells, Kent

Dear Sirs
Firstly I would like to congratulate you on your publication and the related Address Book. I suspect that in the years ahead both will be regarded as having made a contribution to democracy.

I wonder if there is scope to report some ‘good’ corporate acts. There is much in your reports to indicate corporates whose products one might avoid but most of your readers will inevitably be consumers so tips of some corporations to support could be useful.
Regarding Lyminge forest. There are two issues you may wish to act on: Firstly persuading people to take their holidays closer to home instead of air travel to sunnier climates could have a significant Green Dividend. Secondly if one is concerned that this does not outweigh the damage done to an existing forest by turning it into a holiday camp then there may still be another way of achieving the same ends.
Are there not former industrial sites that could be ‘greened’ with large scale plantings of trees and shrubs, landscaping and inclusion of waterways? If Rank are contemplating withdrawal due to the heavy opposition and public relations damage, they might be quite receptive to a well presented plan along these lines from you or whoever.
Sincerely
Richard de Jong, 2594 AR Den Haag, The Netherlands.

Dear Watchers/esses,
I came across your leaflet. The problems you list are directly or indirectly being addressed by over half the two thousand odd pressure groups that from time to time exist in the UK. They all fail to understand that it is a world-wide problem.
Capitalism, whether the types that exist in the so-called Western World; the Second/ Third Worlds or in the states that call themselves ‘socialist’, ‘communist’, or peoples with societies where state or nationalised industry, operates as a form of capitalism. Wherever the working class, 99% of the worlds population, work for wages there’s a money system - that’s capitalism.

Under capitalism nothing is produced unless with a view to making a profit. The only time any control is put on individual capitalist enterprises is when their activities are a threat to capitalism in general. An early example was when a Tory government (despite their claims to be anti-nationalisation) nationalised the postal system, and in the early 1800’s threatened to nationalise the York’s - Lancs. railway company for holding to ‘ransom’ capitalists by their cross Pennine monopoly.

Whatever the political complexion of governments they all exist to manage capitalism - the mass exploitation of the working class through the money-wages system and to protect the wider interests of capitalism against its enemies and monopolies.
It is useless, a waste of time and effort to publish addresses of capitalists i.e. company directors. They’ve received what they term ‘nuisance’ mail on a large scale both individual and organised since the 1930’s. Staff filter it out.
If you feel like working for a completely new world-wide society without capitalism, money, etc. drop a line to the Socialist Party of Great Britain, 71 Ashbourne Court, Woodside Park Road, N12 8SB and they will send you particulars. They are hostile to all political parties and reformism.
Yours sincerely

Dear Corporate Watchers,
This is a brief bit on the research I’ve been doing into global elites. One thing to mention beforehand. I am becoming increasingly aware that the most important weapon the elites have working in their favour is our reluctance to believe things that have such shuddering implications about the shaping of the future. How the overwhelming majority of people throughout the world are in the clutches of a few ruthless individuals. I also write as a Christian.

The two most powerful Elite groups are the Bilderberg Group and the Trilateral Commission. Bilderberg was begun in 1954 by Joseph Retinger and Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands with co-operation from the highest political levels in Europe and the U.S.. The Trilaterals appeared to take account of the rising economic power of Japan and to deliberately but quietly push for world government.

The main proactive members of the groups form steering committees which meet throughout the year. The most active members on these committees are bankers. Around the steering groups cluster heads of Transnational corporations and crucially the chiefs of all the world’s media empires. Budding politicians and ‘maverick’ media editors are invited to secret annual big splash AGM’s where the elite have a chance to assess them and intimidate them with a show of strength.

From that point on the ‘guest speakers’ are either a part of the elite philosophy or not. They have to be very brave to disagree. John Smith disagreed with the Bilderberg group and insisted on bringing a close friend of his along to the next meeting, three weeks before that meeting he was dead. Tony Blair was a guest speaker several yeas ago and got their seal of approval as did Gordon Brown and Kenneth Clarke etc.
