Throughout the global south, people are resisting the expansion of monoculture plantations in favour of sustainable farming practices that encourage biodiversity. This maintains healthy soils, gives crops natural resilience to pests and drought, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Around the world increasing numbers of community-supported agriculture projects, organic small producers and community gardens are also working to increase biodiversity and localised control over the food system.
