Monocultures

Monocultures

Monocultures are large areas of land cultivated with a single crop or plant species. They are energy-intensive and rely heavily on artificial fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides. They pollute land, rivers and seas, destroy habitats, deplete soil nutrients and water supplies. They also concentrate land ownership and cause rural poverty and migration to cities.
