Campaigners vow to target Dale Farm bailiffs

Britain's most notorious anti-Gypsy bailiff company has made itself a target for anti-eviction campaigners by announcing it has won a £2 million to carry out the the biggest eviction operation ever mounted against a traveller community in Britain. Constant & Co., which specialises in
Gypsy evictions, was chosen by the Basildon District Council cabinet at a meeting on 10th December as the preferred contractor to demolish the famous Dale Farm in Essex.

Campaigners take Shell to court over Niger Delta degradation

A judge in the Netherlands has allowed a compensation case against Shell, brought by Friends of the Earth Netherlands and four local Nigerian farmers, over environmental degradation caused by the multinational's oil operations in the Niger Delta. Campaigners estimate that the oil industry is responsible for up to £12bn worth of damage as a result of pipeline spills and flaring of gas in the area.

Another campaigner against Pacific Rim's gold mine in El Salvador killed

Dora Alicia Recinos Sorto has become the third victim of a wave of violence against environmental campaigners in the Cabañas region of El Salvador, where a grassroots campaign against the reopening of the El Dorado gold mine by Canadian company Pacific Rim has been gathering momentum. The Cabañas Environmental Committee member was eight months pregnant when she was shot dead. Her two-year-old son was also wounded in the attack. Her murder on 26th December came six days after the fatal shooting of Ramiro Rivera Gomez, vice president of the Cabañas Environmental Committee.

Another protest at Ahava's London store

December 19th saw the international day of action against Ahava, an Israeli settlement-based spa products company that is known for exploiting Palestinian resources and land. In London, around 20 campaigners held a protest at the company's store in Covent Garden. Besides the police, protesters were this time confronted by some Zionists demonstrating 'in support of Ahava.'

Target Brimar begins 22 days of 'waging peace'

Anti-militarist campaign Target Brimar has begun 22 days of protest to commemorate not only those killed in Gaza during the Israeli attacks last year, but also all those killed by UK and US forces in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere around the world. Brimar is a Manchester-based company whose targeting display systems are used by UK, US and Israeli forces.

London Horse Show protest reveals arms trade links

Members of the London Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) greeted visitors to the International Horse Show at London's Olympia Exhibition Centre on 20th December to tell them the truth about Clarion Events, co-organisers of the event. Clarion is the owner of 11 international 'defence' and security exhibitions, including Europe's biggest arms fair, DSEi, which take place at London's ExCeL centre every two years.
