About 12 climate activists occupied the Irish consulate in Cardiff for about two hours on 24 September in solidarity with the campaign against Shell's gas pipeline in Mayo, Ireland. Five protesters got into the reception area and 'altered the decorations' with anti-Shell stickers. They demanded to see the Consul but he was allegedly not available. Most staff in the building were handed a leaflet explaining why they were protesting.

Outside, a banner was held on the steps of the consulate, ignoring the "ridiculously irate" security chief, as one of the protesters put it. The banner, which had previously been used by the campaign against the Welsh pipeline, read: "Pipeline to Disaster".

Since the arrival of Shell's pipe-laying ship, the Solitaire, actions and protests against Shell have intensified, as reported by Corporate Watch in the last News Updates. Solidarity actions have been carried out by groups supporting the Shell to Sea campaign across the world. On 10 September, the Solitaire sustained damage and work has had to be suspended.
