AMERICAN NAZIS ATTEMPT TO OVERTURN UNPOPULARITY OF FASCISM BY PICKING UP LITTER

Ever felt like your company was run by fascists? Just for a change here's some fascists who are acting like a company. In a PR stunt designed to get over their 'nasty' image, the American Nazi Party in an area of Oregon, USA, recently applied to join the 'Adopt-A-Road' scheme. This allows organisations to have their name on road signs as long as they committ to cleaning up a mile or so of road a couple of times a year. The Nazis' application was duly accepted and the authorities posted several signs in rural Marion County, publically proclaiming, 'American Nazi Party NSM', at the taxpayer's expense, for $250 each. The Marion Country local authority website states 'Your section of adopted road is signed with the name of your group/family, in recognition of your efforts'. -- that's the 'efforts' to pick up crisp packets, not to exterminate the Jewish race or create an Eastern European empire based on slave labour, we imagine. However, it looks like this brave PR move by Nazis may have foundered, as the signs have already been defaced and torn down or removed by public works crews. And rumours that Prince Harry has recently taken a Mid-Western US holiday are, as yet, unconfirmed.

GEORGE W. BUSH - ANTI-GLOBALISATION ACTIVIST

Good news for opponents of corporate-led globalisation, as the US administration does its best to wreck those evil institutions such as the World Bank. With the proposal to insert screaming Neo-Conservative war-hawk Paul Wolfowitz as its chief, the US administration seems intent on eroding the international capitalist co-operation upon which 'globalisation' depends. The Financial Times has reported that 'Within the Bank itself, few see him as an ideal candidate to lead the institution'. The World Bank, previously sheltering behind a little of its United Nations' legitimacy, will now lumped in with the rest of the Bush regime's regime-change machinery. No wonder pro-globalisers like Claire Short are sounding worried. For the World Bank to do its job it has to have a veil of objectivity, which the Bush administration have just torn down in their quest for short-term gains.

YOU COULD ALREADY BE A WINNER

Checking the Corporate Watch email account after almost three weeks I was stunned by the world of wealth, intrigue excitement and friendship that I had been missing out on. Or, to put it another way, as soon as the messages were downloaded the hungry voices of the internet started their quest to make money out of me with. Spammers have to be creative, with only a subject line to play with. Let us walk among them for a moment...

Three 'your account 56789' pretending to be my bank? Maybe this worked back in the old days, now it's the spamming equivalent of trying to rob a band of travellers with a crossbow.

'Your secrets exposed' Warning me of spyware; trying to infect me with a virus at the same time... Oh the Irony of the Electronic Age!

'Young and sexy...young rumanian girls...'

'You never answer your phone anymore', from 'Lyman'; accurate name for a lying spammer.

Plus five 'urgent' requests, from the lawyers and widows of various once wealthy, now deceased, individuals.

Both 'jacquelyne' and 'edyth' assure me that 'this stuff is not really expensive'; with such sophisticated names, how could these ladies be lying?
