Domenico DeSole ‘The fashion house's chief executive, Domenico De Sole - whose partnership with the designer, Tom Ford, turned around Gucci's fortunes - has been elected to the P&G board. The partnership between Gucci, the Italian fashion label favoured by Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss, and P&G could lead to collaboration on toiletries and beauty products - P&G produces the Oil of Olay and Pantene ranges among others. Zedillo, who enthusiastically embraces and promotes neo-liberal virtues such as free trade and privatisation, recently labelled the so-called anti-globalisation protestors as "globaphobics with a protectionist agenda mostly targeted against developing countries." He continued: "In my view, they are as wrong as those within the political establishments of both developed and developing countries who continue to believe that isolationism is a good policy." [38] Critics claim that in Chiapas crimes against humanity are being perpetrated with the complicity of government officials. They have found that Government Officials have some responsibility in massacres taking place in Chiapas [39]. Ronald R. | Chris de Lapuente Vice-president and managing director, Procter & Gamble UK ‘Mr de Lapuente is a fine example of someone working his way right through the company. His rise to become head of P&G UK followed a degree in economics from Buckingham University. His avowed qualities for the top are "a passion for the brands and a passion for winning."’[43] ‘Like his arch-rival, Niall Fitzgerald of Unilever, Mr de Lapuente was invited along with the elite of British business to a recent Chequers summit with the prime minister, Tony Blair. At the meeting he urged the government to go out and state the case for the single currency to overcome public scepticism.’[44] Unilever co-chairman FitzGerald and Procter & Gamble vice-president de Lapuente have recently been named as the two most powerful marketers in the UK. In the ‘Links with Government’ section you can find extracts from an interview with Chris de Lapuente (February 2001) in which he touches upon some specific issues relating to the UK. In that interview he also reveals that the most satisfying part of his job is "seeing the business grow." |
